Our 2017 competition has come to a close and we are excited to ring in the New Year with the announcement of our winner!
We want to offer a sincere thank you too all of the authors who submitted their work for our 2017 prize. It was a pleasure to read so many outstanding manuscripts and ultimately our final decision was much more difficult than we could have ever anticipated. In the end it came down to the work which slipped most gracefully within us, like a skin beneath our skin, and refused to release.
It is with keen excitement that we announce Sarah Layden's The Story I Tell Myself About Myself as the winner of our inaugural competition. Layden's masterfully crafted, deliberate and delicately worded collection of flash fictions asks the reader to enter a world beside our own, opening our eyes to the vivid, collective heartbeat and infinite grasp of our own natures. Publication is slated for Summer 2018.
We are also pleased to announce our two runners-up, both of whom delivered poignant, thoughtful, and artfully rendered works. First runner up is Carol Barrett's Pansies, a series of flash narrative nonfiction essays. And second runner-up is Gary Joshua Garrison's collection of short fiction, The Dilation of Love. We were honored to have the privilege of considering both of these works and hold much admiration for the talent of both authors.
Upon the conclusion of our inaugural competition, we want offer, again, a deeply heartfelt congratulations to our winner and runners-up and a true thank you to all those who participated. Submissions for our 2018 prize are now open. We look forward to reading your work.
